Vanilla Cranberry

Warm taste of vanilla highlights new flavour notes of the excellent Ceylon tea in Greenfield Vanilla Cranberry. Cool, sweet-sour aroma and fresh, icy bitterness of ripe cranberry skillfully blended into the complex flavour complete this wonderful composition.
About type of tea
Vanilla is the most delicate spice, a sweet symbol of serene dream, picture of home comfort and pleasant memories. However it is a dramatic history of real passion, violent conquest, injustice and money-grubbing. The very legend on origin of vanilla, as told by Totonac Indians, who were believed to be the first to find this wonderful spice, is though romantic, but a story of massacre of two young lovers ...
The very legend on origin of vanilla, as told by Totonac Indians, who were believed to be the first to find this wonderful spice, is though romantic, but a story of massacre of two young lovers ... ... Tenitsli, the leader of Totonac, had an incredibly beautiful daughter called Ttsakopontsitsa (Morning Star). The ambitious leader ordered to devote the young beauty to Tonakayohua, a patroness of harvest and fertility. Servants of that powerful goddess, who were in charge of the Totonac goodwill and well-being, had to vow celibacy and keep their chastity forever.
Once a beautiful Ttsakopontsitsu was noticed by Tskotanohga (Young Deer), who was a son of the neighbouring tribe leader. He fell in love with the girl and their love was mutual. The young lovers knew that breaking the vow meant a certain death, but their love was stronger... Ttsakopontsitsa and Tskotanohga hid in the thickets of rainforest but offended priests of Tonakayohua found them. They cut off their heads, took out their trembling hearts and brought them to the altar of the goddess...
At the place where blood of lovers was shed there grew a high bush and a beautiful orchid that climbed touchingly around the bush. Soon the plant gave flowers and after they faded and withered thin graceful pods took their place. They gave a magnificent scent incomparable to the best Tonakayohua temple incense. Orchid became a sacred plant and its fragrant pods were started to be used as a gift to a cruel goddess.
Vanilla became popular due to wars and conquests. The mighty Aztecs who conquered the tribe of Totonac forced the defeated to pay tribute in vanilla pods. They used it to season their famous cocoa drink "chokolatl". For Spanish conquistadors who brought vanilla to the Old World in 1520, this duet of cocoa and vanilla became inseparable. For many years it was the only way that Europeans used this spice. Much later they started using vanilla in cooking and today it is impossible to imagine an exquisite dessert or scanty home baking without this tender exciting spice. Another remarkable property of vanilla is its ability to strengthen the unique flavour of coffee beans or tea leaves and give a specific charm to a drink.
